RE: Just Thinking

With the current status of high interest rates, UAW strikes, quality issues, I would hold off on purchasing a new vehicle unless you absolutely need one.

RE: Ram 2500 vs 3500 TT stability w/ factory rear air suspension

I believe the leaf springs will provide better stability, but a stiffer unloaded ride.

RE: New and Old Skins

I typically get ~40k miles on my tires, but my current set of Nitto Ridge Grappler tires LT285/65R20 have 36k miles and look like they could make it to ~50k miles. https://i.imgur.com/VPnvaKsl.jpg The Ram 2500 I picked up recently has 9,800 miles with Firestone Transforce AT tires and they look like they may make it to ~20k miles.

RE: New and Old Skins

I've had some of the best tires from a factory new truck and some of the worst tires. Best Tires: Uniroyal Tiger Paws (Chevy), BF Goodrich AT 1st gen (Super Duty) Worst Tires: Goodyear (Chevy)

RE: Ford 7.3 engine users?

Thanks for that Will. If I had to replace my present diesel truck, I'd go gas because all the diesels are too complicated and unreliable IMO. Further, after owning a Dodge car for 8 years with a (low mileage) 6.4L eng, I'd never own another Hemi. So my next truck (if I have to buy) would be a Ford 7.3L. But someone's gonna have to pry my hands off the steering wheel of my trusty Cummins first! Scott, What year model truck do you have?

RE: New and Old Skins

Ford has been equipping their F350s with Michelin A/T2s forever….. until now. My ‘23 has Bridgestone Dueller ATs on it. The interesting thing is that none of the Bridgestone Dueller ATs on the internet show the same tread pattern as what’s on my Ford. https://i.imgur.com/3uStPiJl.jpg It maybe a new tire there shipping only to Ford and haven't updated their website yet.

RE: 3.0L Duramax teardown

It won't be long before this engine goes the way of 3.0 Ecodiesel and Power Stroke. If it does, it wasn't because it hasn't been a good engine. I think it is still around because of how good it is. GM went to the effort of updating it recently, had they planned to kill it, it would have made sense to kill it prior to spending the money to update it. That said, I am not saying that GM and everyone else doesn't spend money in a seeming moronic way sometimes. I think the EPA and politics have more play in what stays and what goes these days. It seems like the EV winds are changing somewhat from the promises made a several years ago. So maybe it will stay for a while. The auto industry is taking a beating. Between the EPA mandates, EV being forced into the market, Union mandates, and what customers really want, I don't think the MFg's know if they need to "Wind their butt or scratch their watch". Ram had to ditch their Eco Diesel soon after they did a complete redesign because of the black eye from the first gen ED, they couldn't sell any. Ford never committed to a diesel in half ton so they went with a existing POS engine in their parts bin and has been replaced with the Power Boost. I don't think diesel is the right path for soccer mom use that will be in constant regen, unless they can get rid of the DPF.

RE: Power service winter blend

Not aware of any changes. Your 1 year old white bottle probably has discolored with age.

RE: Tow Vehicle w/ Best Back Seat for Passengers - Ram Mega Cab?

The OP is considering a Mega Cab because the rear seats recline in which non of the other crew cab rear seats do this.

I don't have a problem with Rams new tow mirrors.

2025 Ram 1500

Looks like the EV with gas power to charge the batteries, and the Hurricane engine (~500hp) is in and the Hemi is out, with a mild refresh on the front end and tailgate. Link

RE: Tow Vehicle w/ Best Back Seat for Passengers - Ram Mega Cab?

My 15 RAM Crew DRW has PLENTY of room in the back seat and I have some tall friends. I am tall and never have to move my seat forward. Never have understood the MegaCab thing as it causes you to loose so much bed space. Well said... If I were a betting man, I would bet Ram will no longer make a MegaCab on their next gen trucks.

If you can afford it and I know you can, buy what you want plain and simple! Well said...

RE: I'm curious to know what you would do?

MY BIL had a 2022 F350 Lariet and pretty sure it still had the factory oil/filter on it. He traded it on a 2023 F350 King Ranch.

RE: I'm curious to know what you would do?

Gale Banks has an interesting You Tube video on the '24 Duramax. It speaks to how the truck cannot utilize its max torque capability, except in very limited situations where the truck can stay in first gear. Perhaps the situation is similar in the HO. It has the "potential" to achieve it's power rating but not really achievable in most driving situations. He talks about the torque rise capability and how important that number really is. Your the man when comes to figuring all that out, but after seeing that video, I immediately thought of the HO's run up the IKE as an explanation of why it's run was pretty average considering the spec sheet. The '24 Duramax hp/torque rating is probably understated like the '20 Powerstroke was.

RE: I'm curious to know what you would do?

I look at it this way. I have grown to respect your way of buying the next NEW truck hardly after the first oil change is required. Now to think of you possibly buying a USED truck is just shattering my respect for your style!!! :B Last week we purchased a "used" 2023 Ram 2500 Hemi with ~9k miles so some more shattered respect. We really didn't need it, but the price was good. My wife (she wrote the check) and I picked it up and drove it to the farm. Rides pretty smooth. What is this RV Community coming to??? Next thing ya know I will be buying Sailun's. China tires? I'll pass... Michelin, Goodyear, Yokohama, Continental and Pirelli all have manufacturing plants in China as well, so look closely at what you might buy. Trust me... I do
